The Stonington Shellfish Commission was established by the Board of Selectmen in January of 1983, and operates under the authorities of Volume 8, Title 26, Chapter 492 of the General Statutes of the State of Connecticut. General Statute Sec. 26-257a gives the town authority to establish the Shellfish Commission, while Sec. 26-291a and Sec. 26-292 provide the commission to regulate the harvest of clams, oysters, scallops and other shellfish in town waters.

        

Stonington Shellfish Commission membership consists of five regular members and 2 alternates who are appointed by the Board of Selectmen. The commission holds monthly meetings on the first Thursday of the month.  The meetings are held at the Stonington Town Hall, 152 Elm St., Stonington, CT

 

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING: The Stonington Shellfish Commission will hold a public hearing at 7:00 PM on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Stonington Town Hall to hear public comments on the application by Harmony Sea Farm, LLC. to conduct aquaculture on approximately 2.6 acres of shellfish grounds in Town of Stonington waters in lower Wequetequock Cove.The application is here.
