RECREATIONAL HARVESTING

Recreational harvesting activities are the major focal point of commission activities as this provides direct benefit to citizens of the town, state and region. The Town of Stonington issues a yearly recreational permit that allows for the harvest of clams, oysters and scallops. Clams and oysters may be harvested year round in permitted areas. Scallop harvesting is allowed only during the traditional scallop season which extends from October 15th through March 31st the following year.

Signs marking the permitted areas for clam and oyster harvesting are clearly posted on Conditionally Managed waters. Scallops may be may be harvested from both Open and Closed areas.
